CV / Résumé Guide
Real examples:
Claire’s Webb’s MASTER CV example, with notes
Claire’s Webb’s “tailored artist Résumé” example
Art Professor Anya Kivarkis’ CV
Artist Kevin Beasley’s CV- via Artwork Archive
You might simply use one of these examples as a template for your own CV.
Tips:
There are many acceptable ways to treat your section headers and spacing/indentation. Just keep it simple, consistent, and easy to read.
It is fine to change the order of the sections to fit the opportunity. However, the Education section is usually kept at the top, and Exhibitions, Awards/Grants, and Residencies are generally placed above other sections. Here is CAA’s suggested sequence:
Name and contact
Education
Professional Experience
Awards | Grants | Fellowships | Residencies (or residencies might have their own section)
Exhibitions
Commissions
Press / Bibliography
Visiting Artist | Public Lectures | Workshops | Symposia
Collections (notable collections your work is a part of)
Other Categories
If you need more detailed guidance on format, see CAA’s CV and artist résumé guides.
The CAA guidelines are lengthy, thorough, and the way they treat both the CV and résumé may seem very similar. Use the chart below to understand how the CAA considers the CV and artist résumé to differ.
